Lund University, the Department of Linguistics and Phonetics at SOLcentrum as well as the international phonetics community are mourning the passing of Professor Gösta Bruce, known worldwide for his expertise and ground-breaking research in the field of prosody.

Professor Bruce was also project leader of SweDia 2000, a publicly-accessible library of Swedish dialects from all over the country.

The International Phonetics Association, of which Prof. Bruce had been President since 2007, has released a public message of condolences.

Private messages and testimonies (such as this post by Professor John Wells of the University College London) have also begun to circulate; more are certain to follow.

The funeral will held July 1 at the Lund Domkyrka. The family has requested that, instead of flowers, donations be made to the International Phonetic Association.
