Shanghai Ranking of World Universities

Lund University remains in top 101-150

According to the Shanghai-based ‘Academic Rating of World Universities‘ , Lunds Universitet has held on to its spot amongst the 101-150 best universities in the world again this year.

Lund #101-150? Now there's a riddle - what kind of number is that?!

(The ambiguous number comes from the fact rankings are given only in slices of 50 or 100 after the top 100 are established.)

LU has this press release about the rankings (currently only in Swedish). Three Swedish Universities have fared better than Lund University in the ARWU rankings, including the Karolinska Institutet (#42), Uppsala University (#66) and Stockholm University (#79).

Is your home or undergrad university on the list? Get the full PDF of the rankings here.

ARWU’s official site can be found here. The organization says it uses “six objective indicators to rank world universities, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, number of highly cited researchers selected by Thomson Scientific, number of articles published in journals of Nature and Science, number of articles indexed in Science Citation Index – Expanded and Social Sciences Citation Index, and per capita performance with respect to the size of an institution”.

If you count the number of rows on http://www.arwu.org/ARWU2010_2.jsp and the Lund PDF you link to above, you’ll see that it’s 106th place 🙂

Hmmm if you check they seem to be just in alphabetical order within the same rating category, so we’ll never really know if Lund is 101st or 150th… Who knows! 😉
